The u14b Broadford girls played Creeves away on Saturday in their first league game of the season. Both teams started very well and it was end to end stuff. The Broadford defence was absolutely rock solid with Katie McCauliffe and Sarah O Sullivan letting no ball pass them and they held their defensive line and shape perfectly. On the right hand side of defence Emily Yomens had a fierce battle with her Creeves counterpart with Emily not giving an inch. On the left both Sarah Barrett and Caoimhe Geary played amazingly and held their corner perfectly. 3 girls shared the role of CDM and they all did great Maya Geary, Lauren Walsh and Lucy Fealy all covered a lot of ground and were very strong as the first line of defence. In midfield we had Grace O Connell on the left and she was absolutely brilliant in both her attacking and defending. Lauren Fitzgerald was incredible on the right and she played loads of ball into the forwards. Róisín O Sullivan and Rebecca Lenihan who both played in the center of midfield and were very strong, fighting for every ball. Leah Nunan and Ciara Hogan both also went on in midfield and did great in a very competitive game. Up front we had Sophie White who absolutely drove fearlessly at the Creeves defence, causing all sorts of problems for them. Sophie took amazing corners too giving the other girls great opportunities to score. Emma Noonan up front had a great game and had a couple of chances and pressed hard on the Creeves kick outs. Lauren O Flynn came on up front and was absolutely brilliant. She was taking on the creeves defence and had a few shots on goal. Kyla McIntyre went on up front too and was very strong and showed fierce determination. Leanna in goal had a great game . She made some incredible saves from long range shots from the Creeves forwards. Also Creeves had to play ball over the top of the Broadford defence as our girls were so strong but Leanna was on her toes and alive to every danger. On 12 minutes, Grace got a free and took it quickly with a pass to Lauren Fitzgerald who played to Sophie who took a couple of touches and smashed the ball passed the Creeves keeper. This was to be the only goal of a very entertaining and competitive game. The teams were very well matched and the game was played in very good spirits from both teams. Many thanks to the ref who had a great game too. Both teams should feel very proud of themselves and the supporters were great too, encouraging both teams. Keep it going now girls and ye get the reward ye deserve.
